Fr. 9.1.: Metaday #17 - Eastern Promises - The Bratislava Connection

The Metalab is glad to invite everyone interested to Metaday #17 on Friday, January 9th 2009, 19:30 (start 20:00) at Metalab, Rathausstrasse 6, downtown Vienna close to the city hall. http://metalab.at/wiki/Lage == Eastern Promises - The Bratislava Connection == Speakers: bon, Juraj Bednar and Hysteria founder pajkus http://hysteria.sk Abstract: A small central European country has survived the first steps after being born in just 1993 and since then led a pretty successful journey to becoming a leader in the region in both economical and technical aspects. From the era of BBS, through unbelievably expensive 9600bps dialup connections, quick jump through ISDN and DSL and fiber-to-the-home times, Slovakia has evolved into a technological testbed for various technologies. It's location, population and area all make it a pretty good environment as a testlab. Forgetting the political situation for a while now, we could say we've been doing pretty well. Since the early days, people with interest in all things technology have been experimenting on their projects, mostly alone. The big boom started with Internet which, at first, seemed like an unknown land. The first brave explorers gathered on IRC and formed various groups. Being a pretty small community at the time, all joined into hysteria.sk. Known since the early days for supporting cyberspace communities, free- thinking and technical perfection, hysteria.sk is still being respected as independent leader in the IT/security field. Legendary e-zine Prielom ('breakthrough'), first hacks in the 90's, two BIG incidents around 2003 and 2005 and an on-going tradition of Hysteria Sessions (gatherings). Plus fun, innovation and eastern bloc thinking :) We will present the past, the current situation and plans for the future, as well as stories that haven't yet been covered. All this and more this Friday at Metalab. == Lightning Talks == A entertaining format of short lectures presenting current ideas, ongoing projects and particularly work-in-progress. The length of a talk is strictly limited to 5 minutes. You're invited to add your lightning talk below. * marx: Share Wien * Wizard23: Erstellen einfacher 3D Modelle für RepRap mit Art of Illusion * ... == Afterparty == Buffet, wine and ambient/downtempo chillout music FREE ENTRY.
