Ich bin mit den Thinkapds und einem (aktuellen) Ubuntu bzw. Mint sehr
happy. Gerade für jemanden der wechselt, würde ich Ubuntu empfehlen -
macht den Umstieg sehr komfortabel.

Bezgl. HW. compatibility: Da gibt es das gute Thinkwiki
<http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkWiki>, da kannst Du vorab
recherchieren - ich hab bis jetzt noch jedes Thinkpad mit Ubuntu
brauchbar zum Laufen gebracht.
