Ich hab in letzter Zeit gutes von "kontalk" gehört:

Da ist alles -- Spezifikation und Server-Implementierung -- offen.
Die suchen übrigens nach Mitstreitern. Software ist in Python.
Hat auch einen XMPP Server und kann client-seitig OTR verwenden:

Hmm, vielleicht kann man das ja auch in einen anderen XMPP-Client
integrieren der von Haus aus eine Verschlüsselung (OTR) mitbringt??
Dann kann man natürlich wieder nur mit anderen so ausgerüsteten peers
kommunizieren :-)
