if the copper sheet does not have a carrier foil, then you must use the
big carrier-sheet (slightly sticky) stored under the machine - otherwise
you will harm the machine and destroy your knife. the knife should only
cut through the material, never through the carrier.

ad etching acids: I've worked with sodiumpersulfate for etching quite a
lot a few years ago and it never did harm to my bare hands, if you wash
it off after contact. it will however leave stains in you clothing, so
wear a lab coat.
