#235: SM58 microphone out of order

Comment (by simonrepp):
I redid the soldering in the upper chamber near the capsule (tried both
ways of connecting the wires as both have gotten loose and it was not
clear anymore which cable was meant to be connected to which socket),
however I couldn't get any signal on the mixer in both cases.
The loose XLR connector at the base of the microphone is not fixed yet.
(Though that doesn't appear to have any consequence for testing if you
still plug it in all the way - it's then held by the snap on the xlr
cable)
pk made the effort to look up a repair guide for the mic
([http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Shure_SM58]), with that it should be easy
now to check if the wiring near the capsule is correct, and it also
explains how to fasten the xlr connector at the base (careful: reverse
thread!). Asides from that the reason for the malfunction is unfortunately
still unclear.
When using the repair guide keep in mind that the mic actually is an SM58
S, which is an SM58 that also features an on/off switch, although this
one's switch has been bridged and removed by me when i brought it to the
metalab. (Reason being that mics that are used in "serious" contexts
shouldn't be switchable, cause it always leads to people cutting their own
signal on stage, and you don't want that in the middle of a panel, talk,
etc. ...)
I put the microphone inside the server rack, on the top left of the
pioneer amp (so nobody tries to use it for an event while it's not yet
repaired).
Feel free to attempt an repair, here's the link to the guide again:
