Fresh: Ruby One-Click Installer for Mac OSX
by Matthias Tarasiewicz 13 Jul '07

13 Jul '07

hallo leute, wollte euch mal von unserem aktuellen projekt berichten; bitte um feedback und weiterleitung. gruss, parasew -- Ruby developers working on the Macintosh OS had hard times: broken Readline library on Tiger, too old Ruby on Panther and Rails not working at all, since it requires Ruby 1.8.4. Distributing Ruby-based software can be a pain, since you don't know which packages people have installed. We created the Ruby One-Click Installer exactly to fix that issues: a minimal installer for people that want to start coding or want to distribute their software to people that don't have xcode. No compiling necessary. This package is the most simple way to equip your Macintosh Apple OSX System with Ruby - similar to the Windows Ruby One-Click Installer. It replaces the broken Readline library, updates to a current version of SQLite3 and prepares your OSX for Rails, which needs at least Ruby 1.8.4 to run. The current Ruby Version is 1.8.6 (1.8.5 is recommended for Rails) and Rubygems 0.9.4. This package's intention is to remain small while being a Universal Binary that serves everything to deploy Ruby Applications on OSX Machines - Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger or Leopard. You don't need to compile anything and you don't need Apple's Developer Tools (xcode) installed. Also in the Package: * SQLite3, to have the tightest ACID-compliant relational database management system available. * Ruby/LDAP, in order to enable interfacing with LDAP-Servers via ruby-net-ldap or Active::LDAP. * Ragel State Machine Compiler in case you plan to use SuperRedCloth or Hpricot (and others). * Mongrel Webserver plus dependencies (daemons, fastthread, gem_plugin, rake, cgi_multipart_eof_fix), for your ultimate HTTP needs. You can download the Ruby One-Click Installer for OSX from our site: http://rubyosx.com -- The Ruby One-Click Installer for OSX is a Project by parasew and 5uper.net, originally written to support the popular Wiki-Software instiki. Ruby is copyrighted free software by Yukihiro Matsumoto. This Installer can also run Rails. If you want to help with development, localization or translation go to the Project Page or join the mailinglist.

Fwd: c-Base Red Alert
by Paul Böhm 11 Jul '07

11 Jul '07

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Paul Böhm <paul(a)boehm.org> Date: Jul 11, 2007 12:34 PM Subject: c-Base Red Alert To: vorstand(a)c-base.org Hallo c-Base Wir wollen das die c-Base weiterbesteht!

c-base ALARMSTUFE ROT
by rasda 10 Jul '07

Until July, 31th 2007 we have to come up with several months’ worth of outstanding rent, otherwise we’ll be evicted and the space station will have to close. If that happens an important and fertile ground for ideas and projects (e.g. berlin’s free wavelan networks “freifunk.net” and the wikipedia regulars’ table ), event location (e.g. exhibitions, concerts, open stage sessions) and space for open knowledge transfer and last but not least a home for creatives, utopians and space cadets will dissapear from berlin’s cultural landscape. YOU can help to avoid this, by getting engaged and involved: drop by at our facilities in Rungestrasse and participate, become a member or just go online and hit the donation button. meta-videostream?
by jaume 09 Jul '07

09 Jul '07

Zervus, this is jaume, I'm quite new in metallab and in wien too. I come form barcelona, form a hacklab a bit similar to metalb called riereta.net http://riereta.net I also work in the video audio stream community GISS (http://giss.tv) it is a network of icecast servers plus some features to make easy to stream audio or video. The community is growing up and lot of radios, specially are strating to use the infrastructure, from oaxaca to haifa, form barcelona to canada... I'm very interested in the possibility to make public the events in metalab, metadays and other presentations. I'm wondering if metalab people would like to do this, so people from other places would be able to see the interesting things that are happening in metalab. We will need a linux box and there are some possibilities for the audio and video setup. We can go into details if you thing that could be interesting what I'm proposing. no more and no less by the moment, just tell yopu thanks to make feel like in home in metalab :-) meta-jaume
