Thanks Adrian - that actually looks pretty good.  Do you know if it is compatible with the MPLab IDE in terms of ability to import workspaces and so on - or do you in fact just use MPLab with it?

I’ll be in the ‘lab off and on this week, so I hope to get this sorted out so I can build and burn the bootloader soon ..
