I assume you're using the USBasp from Thomas Fischl. In that case, you  
need to edit firmware/usbconfig.h in USBasp to make the ports match  
your Metaboard configuration and rebuild the firmware. I'm not 100%  
sure if that's sufficient though, but I think it should work.

I would recommend using the Metaboard AVRProg instead. This is already  
tailored to work on the Metaboard:
