 I've connected the Raspi correctly -- no smell, but also no blinking. I've
 confirmed the Raspi SPI chip still works by connecting a ShiftBrite to it;
 blinking can be observed. The power supply for the ShiftBrites still
 provides 7.5 V.

 Is the first ShiftBrite in the wall fried?
