 just for the record, someone wanted to repair the old loung beamer and
 blew up 2 multimeters in the process. one of them was hackishly (in a very
 bad way) repaired before that so an explosion was inevitable at some
 point.. the other multimter only got 2 resistors burned, might be
 repairable (currently resides in a crapbox).
