Nexus 5 Basteleien - hat wer Erfahrung?
by Svenja S. 06 Okt '15

Reminder: Die 7. KaraokeParty am FR, 2015-10-09
by MacLemon 02 Okt '15

Hoi! English below, TL;DR at the bottom. (Trotz all der Singerei.) ---------- We still need a few friendly people to help with the bar, decoration, audio setup and making all of Metalab comfy and all blinky. We’ll need one of the 42" displays again as singer display and a mount. :-) The ad hoc panic solutions like the last time actually did work pretty well but could need some improvements. We’ll need a fresh shipment of beverages, so we don’t run out of beer and Mate for Tschunk. We’ll also need a Metro-run to fetch the usual hard drinks. I’m happy to help compiling a shopping list. Thank YOU for making this an awesome event again! (Despite all the singing.) ------------ TL;DR KaraokeParty at the Metalab. AGAIN! FR, 2015-10-09, 20:00 we’ll begin setting everything up, expect the first songs around an hour later. As usual helping hands are welcome to make this a night to remember. Liebe Grüße Pepi

Robo Kickstarterkampagne aus dem Metalab Umfeld

Werte Liste! Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a MagicShifter! --Arthur C. 3D-Druck-Einführung gesucht
by Johannes Stolba 30 Sep '15

Lg Johannes -- Johannes Stolba mobile: +436802158231

Fwd: Talk Announcement: Wed Oct 21 - "Seven Deadly Sins against privacy and personal data protection in the (European) smart grids roll-out"
by Hetti 29 Sep '15

Interessanter Talk aus der "Cyber" Secuurity Lecture Series am 21. Oktober 16:30-18:00 auf der TU! Diesmal über Security beim Smart Grids Roll Out (in Europa). Falls es wen interessiert :-) Cheers Hetti -------- Weitergeleitete Nachricht -------- Betreff: Talk Announcement: Wed Oct 21 - "Seven Deadly Sins against privacy and personal data protection in the (European) smart grids roll-out" Von: Wolfgang Kastner <k(a)auto.tuwien.ac.at> Dear colleagues, Automation Systems Group and AIT Safety and Security Department are happy to invite you to the next talk within our "Cyber Security Lecture Series". The lecture will be given by Dr. Niels van Dijk and Dariusz Kloza, Vrije Universiteit Brussels. Title: Seven Deadly Sins against privacy and personal data protection in the (European) smart grids roll-out Date: Wednesday, 21st October 2015; 16:30 - 18:00 Location: FH 8 Nöbauer HS - Turm B, gelber Bereich, 2. OG Abstract: Smart grids offer novel means of energy governance and promise an adequate response to environmental, societal and technical developments of the 21st century. Yet, at the same time, they are capable of invading the sacrosanctity of the most privacy-sensitive place - the home. In this lecture, Dariusz Kloza and Niels van Dijk will sketch several societal challenges that smart grids pose and amongst these the threat of abusive surveillance practices. They will next overview and critically assess the "light" regulatory approach that the European Union (EU) has taken as a response thereto. By pointing out the seven major drawbacks of this "light" approach, they will argue that its core element, i.e. a data protection impact assessment (DPIA) framework, is rather a missed opportunity. In their opinion, impact assessments of emerging technologies must be inclusive, easy to use and flexible, satisfying certain quality criteria. Bios: Dr Niels van Dijk is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Research Group on Law, Science, Technology and Society (LSTS) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB) and at the Institute for Computer and Information Sciences (ICIS) at Radboud University Nijmegen. He is also a lecturer in legal philosophy at the Saint-Louis University (USBL) in Brussels. As a researcher he has participated in several national and European interdisciplinary research projects. His research focuses mainly on the challenges posed by new (digital) technologies to practices of law, especially in the fields of intellectual property rights, privacy and personal data protection. Further fields of his interest include: legal theory, law & technology, science & technology studies (STS) and interdisciplinarity. Dariusz (Darek) Kloza, LLM is a researcher in privacy and personal data protection at the Research Group on Law, Science, Technology, and Society (LSTS) and the Institute for European Studies (IES), both at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) as well as at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). His expertise concentrates on the governance and practice of impact assessments for emerging technologies. To that end, he has been involved in a number of EU co-funded research project, such as PIAF (A Privacy Impact Assessment Framework for data protection and privacy rights) and EPINET (Integrated Assessment of Societal Impacts of Emerging Science and Technology from within Epistemic Networks). He holds both an LLM in Law and Technology (2010) from the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) at Tilburg University (with distinction) and a master degree in law from the University of Bialystok (2008). Software presentation + discussion this Friday?
by Adrien 29 Sep '15

29 Sep '15

Hi! I've been thinking for some time about presenting Libervia to Metalab. This is an XMPP-based social network (chat, blogging, file sharing etc) and of course free software. It's still under development but we already have a good amount of code and features. The project is driven by an association that Goffi and I created last year, more info: http://salut-a-toi.org We will both be in Vienna this weekend (I live here but Goffi is normally in Prague), so we were thinking that it could be the right moment to organise something... What about a short presentation and discussion about the new media on Friday during the open space? Is this appropriate? Can we show up near 5-6pm and start when a few people are willing to participate, or is there a special procedure to follow? LG Adrien
